Friday Five: Disney Dining Edition

This Friday I wanted to share some of the restaurants I am looking forward to eating at on our upcoming trip to Disney World for the Expedition Everest Challenge.  Planning Disney Dining is an important step in the travel process, especially for races.

Most will be new to us, as I like exploring different options but some will be returners because they were just that good!

5) Captain’s Grille – This place will be right in our resort at the Yacht Club.  It looks easy and simple and awesome for needing a sit down restaurant without a reservation.

4) Cape May Cafe – After an underwhelming experience at Chef Mickey’s last visit I decided to make a reservation here.  My family loves the ease of meeting the characters at a meal and the reviews here seemed better.  Plus can’t beat the location at Beach Club, next door to our resort!

3) The Wave – This is a repeat.  We loved the fresh food with perfect seasoning.  It was also very easy to eat healthily while also indulging in desert.  We have a lunch reservation to take a break from the busy Magic Kingdom which is just a monorail ride away.

2) Spice Road Table – We love tapas.  Between all the different flavors and getting to share this looks like it will be right up our alley.  Bonus: I hear you can potentially have a pretty good view of Illuminations from your table.  That is definitely in our hopes as it will be much calmer for our party than trying to find a good spot on the fly.

1) Artist Point – This was not originally on my radar at all.  But then I started digging deeper at fun resorts to visit and was really drawn in by the variety and quality of the menu.  After wavering back and forth I decided on Artist Point for our Signature meal of the trip.  Originally it was Yachtsman Steakhouse, but knowing we might not all want steak steered me this direction.  Let’s hope it is a good one!

Where Are You Running?

Hands down I am so glad that I brought my running gear along on the trip to Monterey.  I figured trying to run around the schedule of a wedding, and all sorts of those fun family things that you don’t know are happening before they happen, would be difficult.  And while I was right it has also been perfect for getting in some good miles.

There is a little road that takes people to the beach view houses that was perfect to run on.  I haven’t dared to tackle beach running, as beach walking has proved hard tough enough.

Take a look at the running view:

I got in my 3 mile “long” run for this week and was surprised at how easy it felt even though I was WAAAY overdressed for the 50 degree weather.

I’ve still managed to get a significant number of miles in toward my 2,015 in 2015 goal thanks to all the walking along the beach.  In fact, I think it’s time to go the opposite direction and see what that has to offer!

Keep it beautiful & fierce!

Where are you running today?  Do you prefer beach, trail, or road when headed out the door?

Planes, Trains & Auotmobiles

I planned to get this post up yesterday after my arrival in Monterey, CA.  Obviously I failed at that task.

Travel is never easy, especially when you have to plan for multiple circumstances in a very quick trip, including of course half marathon training, because we all know we can’t let that stop.

But yesterday was dedicated to travel.  I started by hopping in a taxi at 7am to head to Ronald Regan Washington National Airport.  (Welcome to the DC area: where everything is named after at least two presidents, well the airport anyway)

All packed and ready to go.

I got to the airport and was happy to see my plane to San Francisco was ON TIME!

Somehow me and the woman sitting in the aisle of my row became the luckiest people on the plane.  On a full flight we had the middle seat between us free.  Score! I tried to stay up late the night before to make sure I could catch some shut eye on the plane, I’m so bad at that.  Unfortunately this ended up working against me as our 6 hour flight was so bumpy the captain barely let the flight attendants our of their seats for drink service.

Instead of sleep I read my book and gazed out the window at the changing geography below as we crossed the country.  I also may have flipped through Sky Mall because some of their stuff never ceases to make me laugh.

After landing I was STARVING, as I hadn’t had anything but water and at this point it was almost 3pm east coast time.  First I had to get the rental car to drive to Monterey.  That was a nightmare, but I will spare you the details except that I took the little bullet train the airline has followed by a bus to get to the rental car place.  An hour later I was finally in a car and needed to satisfy my hangry self.  (When I am hungry I get pissed! And suffice it to say I was none to happy with Payless Car Rental, yeah yeah I should have known from the name.)

But salvation was just 10 miles away in the form of:

My friend is right: This is what heaven tastes like!

I was greeted by the nicest man, got my double double no cheese, well done fries, and chocolate milk shake and was happy as a little clam!  Prepared to take on the open road I set out with Train’s Save Me San Fransisco playing in the background.

I finally arrived around 3pm west cost time bringing my travel time to: 11 hours!

It was so beautiful and my dad graciously joined me on a walk along the beach so I could stretch my legs.  We ended up covering 4 miles!  It was gorgeous.

Then it was time for margaritas, Mexican food and sleep!

For now I am off to a wedding.

Things I’m Lovin

Tomorrow I will spend an awful lot of time traveling to Monterey, California by way of San Fransisco for my dad’s wedding.

Today has been a little stressful making sure I tie up all the loose ends for the days I will miss at work.  I also try to leave my house fairly clean.  There is nothing like returning to a clean apartment after a vacation!  Since I will be jumping right into work the day after I get back it will be doubly important.

Of course nothing goes as planning, remember this day, but I am soldier through with the help of some awesome things:

Red wine! Cupcake is probably my favorite wine brand right now and the Red Velvet is oh so good.IMG_2249

Can you tell I am disney dreamin’ a little with the wine stopper?

The music video for Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud.

It’s so beautiful, and he is soo adorable learning to dance like that.  Impressive Ed, truly.

These exercise pants I found on super clearance at Target.

Their clearance section never disappoints.  The picture doesn’t do them justice.

It reminded me that our Expedition Everest Challenge trip will be here sooner than I think.

Speaking of Disney, good luck to all those running in the Inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend!

Keep it lovin’ & fierce!
